Charles Elliot Thompson 1855-1910 Charles Elliot was born about 1855, the youngest son of Joseph Lowes and Thomasin Elliott Thompson, at Monkwearmouth Shore. Upon his father's retirement in 1875, operation of the firm was turned over to sons Robert, Joseph Lowes, and Charles Elliot. Charles Elliot married Mary Jane Kish, daughter of William Kish, shipowner, on 2 March 1880, at Sunderland. The firm built ships for William Kish, one being the Queensland, a 360 foot steamer. Mary Jane died in 1900, and Charles Elliot married Margaret Appleby Bartram on 15 October 1903. Charles Elliot died 29 December 1910 at The Poplars, Sunderland. The funeral service was at Dock Street Chapel, and he was buried at Mere Knolls Cemetery, Monkwearmouth. Mary Jane Kish 1859-1900 (1st Wife) Mary Jane was born about 1859 at Sunderland, the daughter of William and Jane Kish, a shipowner. She died 7 June 1900 at age 41. |
