A letter has also been found from John, dated July 4, 1821, requesting one hundred acres of land in Ontario. John married a girl named Anna. They left Canada and entered the United States in Orleans County, New York, in September 1831. John became a U. S. citizen in 1835. He purchased land in the Carlton area in Orleans County. John and family left New York, and moved to Janesville, Wisconsin in the late 1840's. Janesville is located about 35 miles southeast of Madison, the state capital. Wisconsin became a state in 1848. After the death of Anna in 1855, John moved to Hanover, Wisconsin, a small community about 10 miles southwest of Janesville. John married Maria Dunbar, and upon her death, married a girl named Pheobe. John died 24 May 1878 at Hanover, Wisconsin.
