Robert Henry Roe         1816-1891
Robert was born on 11 November 1816, the son of Robert Roe and Mary Legge, in Ireland. His early life contained periods where he was the Head Constable of the Constabulary Police, a hospital steward, then a seaman on the H.M.S. Hogue. He retired from a very good administrative position at the Royal Navy Hospital.

Elizabeth Jane Tennant 1821-1905
Elizabeth was born about 1821, the daughter of Richard Tennant, in Ireland. She was about 16 years old when she married Robert in 1837.

HAULBOWLINE Island
Haulbowline is an island in Cork Harbour, just off of Cobh. It was a very important base for the Royal Navy. It now houses the headquarters of the Irish Navy.

  Mr Robert Henry Roe formerly of Haulbowline, and who subsequently got an appointment in the Royal Naval Hospital, Port Royal, Jamaica, has been appointed Chief Clerk in the Royal Naval Hospital, Plymouth. He is brother to Head Constable Roe of this city.

Mr Roe is well known in his city, having served for many years at Haulbowline, and was employed in the West Indies during the great outbreak of yellow fever amongst the crew of the United States steam frigate Suschuchanna at Jamaica in 1858

  A GOLDEN WEDDING - On Monday last the golden wedding of Mr. Robert H, Roe, of Fromefield, and Mrs. Roe was celebrated at Christ Church-lodge, Cheltenham, the residence of their daughter, Mrs. W. B. Masefield, and was attended by the following members of their family: Mrs. Richard G. Roe, wife of Staff Commander R. G. Roe, R.N., her husband being prevented by duty from attending in person; Captain W. J. Lyon Roe, F.R.G.S., Nautical and Scientific Examiner to the Local Marine Board, Liverpool, and Mrs. Roe; Dr. Arthur Legge Roe, resident surgeon, Hull dispensary and Dr. Alfred J. T. Roe, sons; Mr. Francis M Clark, Admiralty; Mrs. Clark, daughter of Mr. Roe; Mrs. W. R. Mansfield, Miss Clark,
 
and Miss Florence Clark, Miss Mayne and Miss Nina Mayne, grand-daughters.
  It may be interesting to mention that both the father and the grand-father of Mr. Roe lived to celebrate their golden weddings, the former, Mr. Robert Roe, of Freemount and Newtown, Mount Kennedy, Co. Wicklow, on the 17th April, 1854, and his wife Mary Legge, grand-daughter of the Rt. Hon. J. Bilson Legge, Chanceller of the Exchequer in the reign of George the Second; and the latter, his grand-father, Mr. Robert Roe, of Seafin, King's County, and his wife, Grace Hodgson, niece of the first Earl of Rosse, whose golden wedding was celebrated in the year 1819.
