James Watson                                     1781-1855
James was born on 26 June 1781, the son of David Watson and Mary Dixon, in London.
By 1804 James was living in the parish of St Nicholas, in the town of Leicester, where he met and married Mary Roberts of that parish, by license of March 14, 1804. By 1812 James was a captain in the Leicestershire Local Militia.
Shortly after his father died James took his family back to Stamford, where they lived with James's mother at 33 St Peter's Street. By 1831 he had moved to Royal Leamington Spa, and by 1842 was well-ensconced in his last residence, 6 The Circus, Bath.
When James's mother died in 1843 it marked the end of the family's association with Stamford, an association that went back to 1714 when the original Joe Dixon arrived
there from Spalding to apprentice with Old Man Dalby. To seal the end of the association James Watson sold 33 St Peter's Street in January 1844 to Lord Exeter, and also disposed of No. 34, and also 2 All Saints Place.
In 1853 Dr Fred Leighton brought his family to live at 9 The Circus, Bath. The good doctor was married to James Watson's niece, Augusta Susan Nash.
James Watson died in 1855, at his home. His will, drawn up on March 5, 1852, was proved in London on June 8, 1855.
Mary, his widow, didn't last long. She took a trip up to their great friend David Burton's place, The Hall, Cherry Burton, near Beverly, Yorks, and she died there two months later
