Henry Hay Wake                                1844-1911
Henry was born on 2 January 1844, the son of William Morgan Wake and Margaret Hay. He was educated at the Grange School, and then served under Mr. Thomas Meek, engineer to the River Wear Commission. When Mr. Meek retired in 1868, Henry was appointed his successor. Henry was known throughout the country, and was held in high esteem as an engineer, and was frequently consulted on engineering works. He died at his residence, 14 Thornhill Gardens, Sunderland, at age 67 on 17 February 1911.

Isabella Thompson                               1846-1902
  Isabella was born at Monkwearmouth Shore, on 24 December 1846, the daughter of Robert Thompson and Sarah Barbar.   She was baptized at the Whitburn Street Wesleyan Methodist Church.   She married Henry Hay Wake on 9 July 1873.   The photo at right was taken on the next day.

Under my Marriage Settlement dated 8 July 1873, certain special powers of appointment over a certain Policy of Insurance and certain household furniture are, in the events which have happened, now vested in me.
