Horace Lockwood Smith Dorrien         1858-1930
General Sir Horace Lockwood Smith-Dorrien GCB, GCMG, DSO, ADC.
Horace was born on 26 May 1858, the son of Robert Algernon Smith Dorrien and Mary Ann Drever, at Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. Educated at Harrow and the Royal Military Academy. Commissioned in February 1876. Posted to South Africa in 1878, as a trasportation officer. Read his detailed obituary, referenced below, for the story of his life.
