PERSONAL TRIBUTES
CAPTAIN A.R.A. DORRIEN-SMITH
A correspondent writes:
Those who knew and loved Robert Dorrien Smith will know how much the Scilly Islands have lost with him.
He loved the Islanders, the garden at Tresco, and the islands, and he and his wife would have given their very best when the day came for him to succeed to the people dependent on him and who were so fond of him.
But Robert could never have endured imprisonment of disablement or old age; and his friends will always remember with gladness his eager, spontaneous, deeply affectionate nature, the zest in life which he brought to it, his joy and appreciation of the beauty of it, and the steadfastness of his friendship.
