Sydney Bright Smith                           1860-1938
Sydney was born on 12 December 1860, the son of George Augustus Bright Smith and Lydia Adelina Ellen Williams, at Crambe, Yorkshire. Commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the Royal Welch Fusiliers on Aug. 11, 1880, he was promoted to 1st Lt on July 1, 1881. An acting captain by 1885, with the 2nd Battalion, RWF, he was officially promoted to captain on Sept. 15, 1887. He retired in 1895 to become the London socialite, Captain Bright-Smith, living at 395 Oxford Street.
