Robert Edward Wellington Garnham      1825-1907
Robert was born on 31 August 1825, the son of Lt.-Col. Robert Claremont Garnham of Ashfield Lodge, Suffolk, on board ship sailing from London to Calcutta, in the Bay of Bengal. His father, who was serving in India, had, not too long before, served under Wellington, and would himself die on board ship, February 27, 1827.
Robert was in the 6th West Yorks Militia when he married Marian Nash, and it took him 12 years to rise to lieutenant-colonel. The Garnhams spent a lot of their time at Densworth, the Sussex house they had inherited from  A. J.
Nash, but during the Season lived at 14 Montagu Square, London (another A.J. Nash legacy). The colonel was shy and ill at ease in society, but went the rounds for the sake of his daughters. At Densworth, In 1826 he acquired, from Bosham Manor, for 80 pounds, the parcel of land called Cucumber Field. Robert died in September 1907.
On July 1, 1908 the butler at Densworth packed up the contents of the silver-safe into three large boxes. His inventory survives, pinned to the back of the cellar door. When Marian died Densworth went to her daughters
