Sir John William Buchanan-Jardine       1900-1969
Sir John, 3rd Bt., was born on 7 March 1900, the son of Sir Robert William Buchanan Jardine and Ethel Mary Piercy. He was educated at Eton, RMC Sandhurst, and Trinity College Cambridge. Sir John was first married to Jean Barbara Hamilton, the youngest daughter of Lord Ernest William Hamilton. That marriage was dissolved on 8 Dec 1944, whereupon Sir John married Prudence Audrey Haggie on 12 Dec 1944, in London. Sir John was a racehorse owner, a Captain in the Royal Horse Guards, and head of Jardine Matheson Co., one of the largest British firms in China. He died in 1969.

    The marriage took place yesterday at St. Margaret's, Westminster, of Mr. J. W. Buchanan-Jardine, only son of Sir R. W. and Lady Buchanon-Jardine, of Castle Milk, Lockerbie, and Jean, younger daughter of Lord and Lady Ernest Hamilton, of 87, Elm Park Gardens, S.W. The Rev. William Colville-Wallis, vicar of St. Agnes, Newmarket, officiated, assisted by the Rev. F. Long. Mr. Sowerby was best man.
    The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a draped gown of white georgette, caught by a spray of Madonna Lilies, with a full train of silver tissue, also ornamented  with  Madonna  lilies,   the   same   flower
being used for the bouquet. A fillet of orange-blossem fastened the tulle veil. Her nine bridesmaids - Miss Brenda Hamilton (her elder sister), Miss Joan Lloyd (daughter of Sir Marteine and Lady Lloyd), Miss Pamela Campbell, Miss Ursula Chamberlain (daughter of Sir Henry and Lady Chamberlain), Miss Sylvia Portman, Miss Pamela Peel, Miss Dilkusha Wrench, Miss Lorna Baldwin, and Miss Vera Piercy - carried sheaves of red roses, with which the church was also decorated, and wore gowns of white and silver brocade belted with silver tissue, and hair-wreaths of silver leaves. Her page was Viscount Chelsea, son of Earl and Countess Cadogan, who wore a Kate Greenaway suit.
    A reception was held at 9 Chesterfield Gardens, lent by Lord and Lady Leconfield.

"worlds best dressed man" by Savile-row tailors, is to marry Miss Prudence Haggie in London tomorrow.
  His first marriage, to the youngest daughter of the late Lord Ernest Hamilton, was dissolved on Friday.
  Sir John is head of Jardine Matheson and Co., one of the biggest British Firms in China.

Sir J. Buchanan-Jardine

Captain Sir John Buchanan-Jardine, Bt. died in Cannes on Wednesday at the age of 69.
The second son of the second baronet he was educated at Eton, R. M. C., Sandhurst, and Trinity College, Cambridge, and saw service in the Royal Horse Guards in the Second World War. He had been Master of the Dumfriesshire Hounds and Joint Master of the New Forest Buckhounds. He was a member of the Royal Company of Archers.
He was twice married and is succeeded by the son of his first marriage, Major Andrew Buchanan-Jardine, M.C.
