Colonel Leslie Davidson of Inchmarlo   1850-1915
Colonel William Leslie Davidson of Inchmarlo, CB QM (4 clasps) JP RHA, Gentleman Usher to His M King George V, ADC to The Chief of Staff to His Majesty's Viceroy of India, ADC to His Majesty's Lieutenant Governor of Gibraltar.
Leslie was born on 31 January 1850, the son of Professor Patrick Davidson of Inchmarlo and Mary Anne Leslie of Warthill. He served in the Zulu War in 1879 (Mentioned in Despatches), the Afghan War in 1880, and the South African War in 1899 (Mentioned in Despatches). He married the Lady Theodora (van) Keppel DGstJ in 1887. He died on active service, while leading his men, in WW1.

Lady Theodora was born 11 June 1862, the daughter of Sir William Coutts Keppel, 7th Earl of Albemarle and Sophia Mary MacNab, at Chelsea, London.
She was 7th in line of descent from HM King Charles II. The Godfather of Leopoldina's (Lena's) aunt, Lady Leopoldina (van) Keppel, was HM King Leopold II of The Belgians, (born 1835, Crowned 1865, died 1909), a long standing friend of the family. .

Colonel Leslie Davidson, C.B.
    Colonel William Leslie Davidson, C.B., Royal Artillery, Gentleman Usher to the King, died of heart failure at Rouen on August 3 while on active service.
  Colonel Davidson, who was 65 years of age, was the second son of the late Patrick Davidson, LLD, of Inchmarlo, and entered the Army in July, 1869, obtaining his coloneley in April, 1900.   In 1875-7 he was A.D.C. to the Commander-in-Chief, India, and in 1881-2 to the government of Gibraltar.   Colonel Davidson was wounded in the Zulu campaign, 1879, and was mentioned in dispatches.   He saw active service again in the Afghan War, 1880, and in the South African War, where he was Colonel on the Staff for Royal Artillery.   He was present at the relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Poplar Grove, Dreifontein, and Karee Siding; and for his services, which were mentioned in dispatches, received the Queen's Medal with four clasps and was made a C.B.
  Colonel Davidson, who had been Gentleman Usher to the King since 1913, married, in 1887, Lady Theodora, eldest daughter of the 7th Earl of Albemarle, and leaves two sons and four daughters.   His nephew, captain D. H. Davidson, Seaforth Highlanders, was killed on May 9.

    A requiem Mass was sung yesterday at Brompton Oratory for Lady Theodora Davidson. Father Dale Roberts was the celebrant.
