John Hunton                                         1826-1887
John was born about 1826, the son of Christopher Hunton and Margaret Nicholson, at Stockton, County Durham.
In 1875, John was elected Mayor of the town. He also served as the Master of Masonic Lodge No. 940, following right after his brother-in-law, Anthony Crosby Knowles.

Mary Ann was born about 1827, the daughter of William Knowles and Isabella Crosby, at Norton, County Durham.

HUNTON, John, The Will with two codicils of John Hunton, late of Greystone near Carlton and of Victoria-terrace, Stockton, both in the County of Durham, Brick and Tile Manufacturer, who died 19 March 1887, at Victoria-terrace, was proved at Durham, by Mary Ann Hunton, of Greystone, Widow, the Relict, and Christopher John Hunton of Merston, Newport, in the Isle of Wight, in the County of Southampton, Banker's Clerk, and William Knowles Hunton, of Greystone, Accountant, the Sons, and John Robert Elstob Hunton, of Stockton, gentleman, the executors.   Effects £2,116 11s. 7d.

WILL OF LATE MAYOR OF STOCKTON
 The will, dated 13th May, 1880, with one codicil, has been proved of Alderman John Hunton, J.P., late of Greystone, near Carlton, and Victoria Terrace, Stockton-on-Tees, brick and tile manufacturer, who died on the 19th March last, and was mayor of Stockton in 1875-6, and president of the Stockton Freemason' Club.   The testator appoints as executors his wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Hunton,

his sons Christopher, John, and William Knowles Hunton, and his cousin, John Robert Hunton, solicitor; and bequeaths to his said wife his furniture and household effects at Victoria Terrace absolutely, and the use and enjoyment of the contents of his Greystone house, and he devises and bequeaths all his real estate and the residue of his personal estate in trust to pay the income thereof to his said wife during her widowhood, and in the event of her remarriage to pay her an annuity of £100 for her life.   He charges the estate with the payment of an annuity of £50 for her life to his sister, and subject thereto and the life interest of his said wife devises his property at Greystone and in Victoria-terrace to his said sons Christopher and William as tenants in common, and his property in North-terrace and Skinner-street to his son James Anthony.   The remainder of his house property in Stockton he leaves amongst his sons Frederick and Henry, and his daughters Isabella, Louisa, Eleanor, and Mary, and bequeaths the residue of his estate, the personality being of the value of £2,116 11s. 7d. in equal shares amongst all his children, the shares of his daughters being held in trust for their separate uses.
