Sir John Storey Barwick, Bart.            1840-1915
John was born on 23 February 1840, the son of William and Mary Barwick, in Sunderland. He married Margaret Short. He became the 1st baronet of Ashbrook Grange, Durham, on 1 February 1912.

DEATH OF SIR JOHN BARWICK
A CAPTAIN OF INDUSTRY ON
NORTH-EAST COAST.
  Sir John Storey Barwick died yesterday at Thimbleby Hall, Northallerton, aged 75.
  From a humble origin Sir John rose to an important commercial position on the North-East Coast.   He was a coal and quarry owner, was interested in shipbuilding, and was a large shareholder in Furness, Withy, and Co. (Limited), being also on the board of the North-Eastern Banking Company.   A Liberal in politics, he was created a baronet in 1912.   His wife, who was the daughter of the late Mr. George Short, shipbuilder, died in 1908, leaving two sons and four daughters.   The title passes to Mr. John Storey Barwick, who was born in 1876 and married Gwladys Jessie, daughter of Mr. G. W. Thomas, of Ystrad Mynach.
