During the reign of George III this house was bought by the 3rd. Earl of Albemarle for £63,000 and would be transformed out of recognition by his son, William Charles, who greatly enlarged it with the addition of extra wings encasing the original, Tudor style mansion. The Earls of Albemarle, who retained possession of the Hall until 1948, were descendants of Walter Joost van Keppel who came over to England from the Netherlands as a page to William III in 1688, and it was as the Keppels that the family were known to King Edward VII. Alice Keppel, the Edwardian beauty who became the King's last mistress, was married to the third son of the seventh Earl.   King Edward visited Quidenham Hall in 1907.
