David Evans                                        1828-1908
  David was born about 1828, the son of David Evens, at Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales. He married Emily Margaret Cox.   David purchased the hot springs at Builth; his idea being that the miners from the Rhonda Valley would be suffering from rheumatic pains and could seek a cure at the spa he had built.   In order to transport the ailing miners, he built a railroad from the valley to Buith.
  He also built and managed a bank in Brecon.   A very wealthy man now, he turned his attention to real estate, buying the Ffrwdrech Estate.   The house was built in the Italian style, the south face having an uninterrupted view of the Brecon beacons.   He then bought Hillend estate near Ledbury, Poynings estate Uffculm Devonshire, and Stoke Court plus four farms south of Ludlow Shropshire.

Emily was born about 1850, the daughter of James Cox and Mary Douglas, at Kimmerghame Duns, Berwick, Scotland.
