Charles Collinson Rawson                   1840-1928
Charles was born on 13 December 1840, the son of Charles Stansfield Rawson and Charlotte Elizabeth Octavia Collinson, at Boldon, County Durham.
He immigrated to Sydney Australia arriving in December 1857, with two of his brothers. In 1866, he and brother Edmund took up The Hollow in the Mackay district after it had been forfeited. The two brothers married the two daughters of the Rev William Gorst Harrison, of Easington Rectory in Durham Charles retired back to England in 1886.

Winifred was born about 1848, the daughter of Rev. William Gorst Harrison and Susan Arbuthnot Craufurd Austin-Gourlay, at Hart, County Durham.

DEATH IN LONDON


News has been received by cable of the death of a well-known former Queensland resident; Mr. Charles Collinson Rawson, which occurred at his home at Gore Lodge, Hampton-on-Thames, England, on January 8.
The late Mr. Rawson was born in the North of England, and was 87 years of age. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. Charles Stansfeld Rawson, of Westdale Hall, Cumberland, of the Hon. East India Company. He was a cousin of the late Sir Harry Rawson, and a relative of Governor Sir Dudley Rawson de Chair. He arrived In Australia in 1857, and settled at The Hollow, Mackay, Queensland, with his two brothers, the late Messrs. Edmund Stansfeld Rawson and Lancelot Bernard Rawson, in 1857.   Effects £2,032 18s. 5d. For many years he was engaged in pastoral pursuits, and he organised the first expedition to climb Mount Dalrymple, in May 1878. In the Sixties the late Mr. Rawson made two or three trips on

the old Tingira, then known as the Sebraon, a champion liner of her day. He retired to England In 1886. He was In business in London, in partnership with the late Mr. Reginald B. B. Clayton. of Maryborough, Queensland, father of the Rev. P. T. B. Clayton, founder of Toe H. For many years Mr. Rawson was the organising secretary of the annual Queensland dinners In London. He Is survived by Mrs Rawson and two sons. The eldest, Charles Stansfeld Rawson, residing In Brisbane, and the youngest, Geoffrey Edmund Rawson, residing in Double Bay. Another son, the late Captain Lionel Reginald Rawson, M C, was killed in France in October, 1916, serving with the King's Royal Rifles. The only grandson. Harry Gilbert Collinson Rawson, son of Charles Stansfeld Rawson, resides in Double Bay. During the latter years of last century, the late Mr. Rawson's figure was well known on his "Walking Machine" In Double Bay.
