Richard became a civil engineer and worked in Egypt on the railways. He married Enid Russell in Sydney in 1914 and took her to Cairo to live. They had one daughter, Rosemary. They were living in Cairo in 1917 when Enid's father, Henry Russell, died there on August 23 whilst on a visit from Australia. At about this time Richard was awarded the Order of the Nile (4th Class) by His Highness, the Sultan of Egypt, for his services to the country. Richard and Enid retired to Tasmania where Richard was still alive in 1954. Enid died in 1952. Mabel was living with Richard and Enid in 1949, obviously settled in Australia by then as she had registered to vote. She died on 27 July 1970 and is buried in Hobart. |
