Arthur was born about 1852, the son of George Augustus Bright Smith and Lydia Adelina Ellen Williams, at Crambe, Yorkshire. Arthur Augustus W.B. Smith matriculated at Wadham, Oxford, on June 7, 1877. He changed his last name Smith to Bright-Smith. From Nov. 30, 1878 to Jan. 24, 1880 he was a lieutenant in the King's (Liverpool) Regiment. The 1881 census finds him as a lieutenant in Salford. By 1882 he was | of Oakfield, Worcestershire. He then became a captain in the King's Own 3rd Hussars, as paymaster (with the Army Pay Department) attached to the 10th Hussars. In 1893 he became a lieutenant in the Hampshire Yeomanry Carabiniers, and by 1896 was a JP and magistrate of Hampshire, living at East Court, Cosham. He wrote "The Nature of Disability". He finally made majorin 1911, was a drafting officer during World War I. He belonged to the Naval and Military Club, Piccadilly |
