St John Basil Wynne Willson               1868-1946
St. John was born on 28 August 1868, the third son of Rev. William Wynne Willson and Mary Alexander, at Shackleford, Godalming, Surrey. He attended Holmesdale School, Keymer, Surrey, and then Cheltenham College. He was admitted to St. John's College, Cambridge, on 11 Aug 1887. He obtained his B.A. in 1890, and his M.A. in in 1894. He received an Honerable LL.D. from Bristol university in 1925. He was editor of The Granta. He was Asst. Master at the Leys School, Cambridge, 1891-8, and at Rugby School, 1898-1905.
He was Ordained deacon (Worcester), 1903, and priest, 1904. He was Select Preacher at Cambridge, 1908 and 1916, Head Master of Haileybury College, 1905-11; of Marlborough College, 1911-16. Canon of Salisbury, 1912-16. Dean of Bristol, 1916-21. Bishop of Bath and Wells, 1921-37.

Alice was born on 8 Jul 1882, the second daughter of Sir George A. Wills, Bart., and Susan Britton Proctor, at Bristol, Gloucestershire.

THE DEAN OF BRISTOL AND MISS WILLS

  Bristol Cathedral was crowded yesterday on the occasion of the marriage of the Dean, the Very Rev. St John Basil Wynne Willson, and Miss Alice Proctor Wills, second daughter of Mr. George A. Wills, of Leigh Woods, Bristol, and chairman of the Imperial Tobacco Company.   The ceremony was performed by the Bishop of Bristol, assisted by the Archdeacon Talbot and other clergy.   The dean was formerly Master of Marlborough college.
