John Christian Schetky                      1778-1874
John was born on 11 August 1778, the son of Johann Georg Christoff Schetky and Maria Anna Theresa Reinagle, At Edinburgh, Scotland. He loved the sea, and briefly served in the Royal Navy. He was a very accomplished artist, and took up painting naval vessels. He received royal commissions as marine painter in ordinary to George IV and William IV and was reappointed to the post under Queen Victoria in 1844.
