Rev. Henry Meux Roxby 1832-1900
Henry was born on 18 May 1832, as Henry Meux Maude, the son of Rev. Henry Roxby Maude and Jane Meux, at Arkendale, Yorkshire. On 3 February 1837 the family name was changed from Maude to Roxby.
He was educated at St. John's College, Cambridge, entering in 1850. He earned his B.A. in 1855; M.A. in 1860; was ordained Deacon in 1856; Priest in 1857. He was Curate of Wellingborough, Northants., 1856-1868, Vicar of Apethorpe, 1868-1875, Vicar of Buckden, Hunts., 1875-1900.

Caroline was born about 1841, the daughter of Henry William Hewlett and Octavia Charlotte Gay, at Clapham, Surrey.

PROFESSOR P. M. ROXBY Professor P. M. Roxby, whose death from a heart attack occurred on Monday in Nanking at the age of 66, was the chief representative of the British Council in China.
Percy Maude Roxby, the youngest son of the Rev. H. M. Roxby, vicar of Buckden, Huntingdonshire, was born on November 21, 1880, and began his education at Bromsgrove School. Going up to Christ Church, Oxford, with an open history scholarship, he gained the Gladstone Memorial Prize in 1902 and a year later took a first in modern history. Joining the staff of Liverpool University as lecturer in geography he won the Albert Khan traveling fellowship in 1912 and became Professor of Geography in 1917, a post he held until 1944. During his occupation of the chair he served as a member of the China Education Commission in 1921, served as visiting professor at Cairo University in 1930, and in the same year was president of the geographical section of the British Association. He was appointed to the post of chief representative of the British Council in China in 1944 and took up his duties the following year. A teacher of more than ordinary capacity, his achievement must be sought for in the encouragement and direction in research he gave to his students at Liverpool. Nevertheless, the quality of his mind may be judged by his contributions to the "Encyclopaedia Britannica" and by his remarkable presidential address, entitled " Human Geography," to the Geographical section of the British Association in 1930. His appointment by the British Council recognized the long and close study he had given to eastern questions.
He married, in 1941, Marjorie Peers, daughter of the late Mr. J. S. Howden, of Liverpool
