Francis Athow West                             1801-1869
Francis was born on 3 February 1801, the son of Rev. Francis Athow West and Mary Francis, at Kettering, Northamptonshire. He was educated at Woodhouse Grove, in Apperley Bridge, West Yorkshire, and entered the itinerancy in 1822. He exercised a highly successful circuit ministry that culminated in his election to the Conference presidency for 1858. Poor health forced him into retirement in 1867 and he died less than a year later at his home in Great Crosby near Liverpool.
