Fanny Dalrymple 1840

Alexander was born 21 October 1833, the son of John Dalrymple (a Master Mariner born in Scotland but who lived in London) and Sarah Williamhurst, in Shadwell, in East London. After living in St Vincent for many years, Alexander and Fanny moved the family to London by 1871. In 1874, Alexander was admitted to Brooke House, Hackney, London which was a private 'lunatic' asylum for the wealthy. Alexander was insane for the rest of his life and the cost of his care must have taxed the family. He spent quite a lot of years in Scottish asylums but as the money ran out he was moved to publicly funded institutions in the London area.
