Thomas Oswald                                   1784-1861
Thomas was born on 15 September 1784, the son of William Oswald and Jane Hardcastle, at Deptford, Kent.
Thomas had a very close relationship with an older gentleman by the name of Thomas Shipman. In fact Mr. Shipman treated Thomas like an adopted son. Sarah Simson was the daughter of a very old friend of Mr. Shipman, so when Thomas was going to marry Sarah, Mr. Shipman arranged a financial arrangement to benefit them. This "arrangement" later resulted in a law suit following the death of Thomas Shipman on 5 March 1842, at the age of 81.
