The Will of Thomas Elliot Parrington 1877 - 1962       Dated 14 November 1958

THIS IS THE LAST WILL of me THOMAS ELLIOT PARRINGTON of Carley Hill, Sunderland, retired mining engineer.
  1. I REVOKE all testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me.

  2. I WISH to be cremated, and request that no flowers be sent, or mourning worn.

  3. I APPOINT daughter Jean Parrington, my son Thomas Parrington, and my brother-in-law, Charles Ralfe Thompson, (hereinafter called "my Trustees") Executors and Trustees of this my Will.

  4. I GIVE (free of duty) to my wife, Dora Clark Parrington. One Thousand pounds (to be paid to her as soon as possible after my death.) and all my articles of household. domestic or personal use or ornament, except my guns, fishing rods, and other sporting articles, which I give (free of duty) to my son Thomas.

  5. I GIVE (free of duty) the following legacies to my servants, whether in my employment, at my death, or not:
    1. One hundred pounds to Percy Arrowsmith
    2. Fifty pounds to John Tate
    3. Fifty pounds to Mary Smith
    4. Fifty pounds to Annie Walker

  6. I GIVE all my estate and effects, both real and personal, not hereby, or by any codicil, hereto otherwise disposed of to my Trustees UPON TRUST that my Trustees shall sell, call in, and covert into money, such part thereof, as shall not consist of money (with power to postpone such sale, calling in, and conversion, at their discretion) and shall, out of my ready money, and the clear money to arise from such sale, calling in, and conversion, pay my debts, and funeral, and testamentary expenses, and all pecuniary legacies, given by my Will, or any codicil hereto, and the duties on all legacies, given free of duty, and shall invest the Residue of such money (which money and the investments for the time being representing the same are hereinafter called "my Residuary Estate") and shall pay the annual income of my residuary estate to my wife during her life, AND from and after her death, my Trustees shall hold my Residuary Estate UPON TRUST to pay thereout (free of duty) One thousand pounds to my daughter Millicent Carter (who, I believe, is otherwise provided for) as a token of affection, and as to the remainder thereof UPON TRUST as to one half part for my daughter Jean, as to one fourth part for my son Thomas, and as to the remaining one fourth part for my grand-daughter Diana Carter.

  7. I DIRECT that all duties that may become payable on my death, in respect of the investments which I have recently given to my daughter Jean, shall be paid out of my estate.

  8. I DECLARE that, as between capital and income of my estate, dividends or other periodical payments, current at my death, shall not be apportionable, but shall be applied as income.

  9. MY TRUSTEES may invest in such manner, and upon such securities and investments (whether or not authorised by law for the investment of Trust Funds) as they might do if they were absolute beneficial owners (including power to purchase a residence for the occupation for my wife).

  10. MY TRUSTEES may appropriate any property forming part of my residuary estate to or towards any share in the proceeds of sale thereof, and for that purpose may fix the value thereof as they shall think fit, and every such appropriation and valuation shall be binding on all persons interested under this my Will.

  11. MY TRUSTEES may, instead of acting personally, employ and pay any person or persons to transact any business or do any act in relation to the trusts hereof, and the administration of my estate (including the receipt and payment of money) without being liable for any loss incurred thereby.

  12. THE statutory power of appointing new trustees of this my Will, shall be exercisable by my wife.

On the 18th day of June 1962, Probate of this will was granted at Durham to Thomas Parrington of Testcombe, Stockbridge, Hampshire, Hospital Director, and Jean Parrington, of Field Cottage, Borrowby, Yorkshire, spinster, children of deceased, and Charles Ralfe Thompson C.M.G., O. B. E., of 14 Pont Street, Mews, London, SW1, Commander R.N.(Retired), the executors named in the said will.

Thomas Elliot Parrington, of Carley Hill, Sunderland, County Durham
died on the 5th day of March 1962, at the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, Yorkshire.
