The Times, Thursday, Feb 27, 1913   OBITUARY
MR. SPENCER H. CURTIS
Mr. Spenceer H. Curtis died at his residence, 24, Longridge-road, S.W., yesterday, from heart failure, following an attack of pneumonia.
Mr. Spenceer H. Curtis, who was in his 80th year, was the son of the late Mr. Charles Berwick Curtis, of 105, Eaton-square.   Entering the city 59 years ago, he became connected with Messrs. Bosanquet and Madden, a firm of West Indian merchants, with extensive interests in British Guiana and Jamaica; and in 1801, upon the retirement of Mr. Bosanquet, senior, he became a partner.   The firm was subsequently called Hogg, Curtis, Campbell, and Co., and, since the late Mr. Quuinton Hogg severed connexion with the West Indies, it has been carried on as Curtis, Campbell, and Co.   For over 45 years Mr. Curtis was a member of the board of the Colonial Bank, an institution closely identified with the West Indies, and he had been a director of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, which was originally formed to conduct the mail service of those colonies, since 1878.   He was a magistrate for Hertfordshire and Middlesex, a director of many years' standing of the Indemnity Marine Assurance Company, and a member of the Executive and treasurer of the West India Committee.   By his kindly manner and generous disposition he endeared himself to a wide circle of friends both at home and in the West Indies, by whom he will be greatly missed.
