Robert Pile Doxford                             1851-1932
Robert was born on 11 December 1851, the son of William and Hannah Doxford. Robert became an engineer, and served his apprenticeship under Sir William Allan at the Scotia Works, lower down the river from Pallion. He subsequently took charge of the Doxford General Engine and Brass Foundry Works, and in 1867 designed and built Pallion Engine and Boiler Works. He married Ada Barber in 1876. He along with his brother Charles became partners in the Doxford firm in 1880.

Ada was born about 1854, the daughter of William Barber and Elizabeth Beswick, at Sunderland.
