Hilda Margaret Quick                           1895-1978
Hilda was born on 28 October 1895, never married, and died on 6 November 1978, at St Agnes, Isles of Scilly, Cornwall. She moved to St Agnes in 1951 and lived there all her life, and is buried in the Churchyard in St Agnes.
An early student of Noel Rooke, Hilda Quick was known for the social realism of her work. She also used her wood engravings for book illustration including a number of books
on bird life around the Scilly Isles where she lived. She did some commercial work including costume design and publicity for the Minack Theatre in Cornwall. Her wood engraving "End of Term at the Rookery" gives an indication of the atmosphere experienced by students in Rooke's wood engraving class. Her family donated a collection of her work in 2000 which is available for research.
