Richard was born about 1837, the son of Richard Donald Pearce and Jennifer Bennett, at Camborne, Cornwall..
Following in the footsteps of his father, who was superintendant of the local tin mine, he studied the uses of metals, but moved to Colorado where he became famous as a researcher and entreprenuer.
