Michael Grellis                            1838-
Michael was born about 1838, in Ireland, the son of Michael Grellis and Mary Scalon. He married Elizabeth Byrne about 1864, in Dublin. He and his brother Andrew, left Ireland, and traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland. Michael was a career army man, serving in the 52nd Light Infantry Regiment (Oxford and Buckinghamshire). While serving in India, they had three daughters, but all died in their first year. He was awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal for 21 years of service. He achieved the rank of Warrant Officer 2. They wanted to emigrate to Tasmania, but Elizabeth became ill, so they gave the tickets to his brother Andrew. After his wife Elizabeth died in 1896, he appears to have remarried about 1900.
