John Dickinson                                     1825-1908
John Dickinson was born about 1825, the son of William Dickinson and Ann ?, in Hebburn, County Durham. He had founded the John Dickinson & Sons engine works at Palmer's Hill, in 1852. In 1895 the firm became a limited liability company, and four sons became directors; William, James, Frederick, and Alfred. After their deaths, Stanley (son of James), and Harold (son of Alfred) were in charge until the firm was acquired in June, 1940, by the North-Eastern Marine Engineering Company.

Mary Ann was born on 14 August 1831, the daughter of William Thompson and Mary Ann Fogo, in Sunderland, County Durham.
