DEATH OF MR JOHN RAWSON
After some weeks severe illness Mr John Rawson died at his residence, Brockwell, on Wed. morning aged 85 years. He caught severe cold in going to Sowerby Church one stormy Sunday evening about a month ago. A week later he was compelled to take to his bed, suffering from an acute attack of influenza, which subsequently affected his heart. Dr. Mantle was called in and rendered constant attention but his patient became worse and more than a week ago it was recognised that his condition was exceedingly grave.
The deceased gentleman was the second son of Mr. Henry Rawson of Mill House. He was the 6th child, was the last survivor of a family of ten and has lived to a more advanced age than any of his brothers or sisters. In 1840 he married Miss Elizabeth Marianne Priestley daughter of the late Mr. John Priestley of Thorpe and made his home at Brockwell. They had only one child a daughter who died at the age of 16 and later in life Mr. Rawson also lost his wife.
Originally the deceased gentleman was an active member of the firm of Messrs. William Henry Rawson & Co. along with his brothers William Henry and Frederick, carrying on a business at Mill House and Halifax but he retired from the business more than 20 years ago.
The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at St. Peter's Church.
