John Dalrymple                                     1794-1879
John was born 15 Oct 1794, the son of William Dalrymple and Barbara Johnston, at Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was a Master Mariner, holding certificate, dated 8 January 1852, from Port of London, England He was living at that time at 103 John Terrace, East Indian Road, Poplar, close to the East Indian docks of London. In his later life, he owned a merchant ship. He named it "Osbert", after a ship he previously served on, that ended up sunk in a storm, off Dominica in 1850.

The Times, Monday, Aug 19, 1850                         West Indies and Mexican Mails
  Off Dominica the ship "Osbert", with 600 or 700 hogsheads of sugar, was wrecked, and the crew with difficulty saved by the exertions of the people on shore. Several other vessels were lost, and the whole bay was strewn with portions of the wreck.
