James Charles Wauhope                     1884-1960
James Charles, Commander, R. N. was born in India in 1884, and educated at Charterhouse and in H.M.S. Britannia. He became a Midshipman in 190l, and was employed for several years before the war in submarines. During the war of 1914-1918 he was for some time in the North Sea engaged in antisubmarine work, but was also at the Dardanelles and took part in the first landing. He retired with the rank of Commander in 1922. In 1911 he married Kathleen Gilmour. Annie Kathleen Gilmour                     1880-1945
Annie was born about 1880, the daughter of David Gilmour and Margaret Jane Muirhead, in Shanghai, China.
There were no children of this marriage.

Captain J.C. Wauhope, who is travelling from New Guinea to Great Britain, where he will now live. He joined the Royal Navy in 1899 and had his first command, the submarine A5, in 1908. For a year and a half during the Great War he was in command of a Q ship, the Q4. He was lent to the Royal Australian Navy in 1923, and was commander of the cruiser Adelaide. He retired in 1924 and went to live in New Guinea, where for the past seven years he has been successfully working a claim on the Wewak goldfield.

  WAUCHOPE - On Oct. 19, 1945, suddenly, at a London Hotel, Annie Kathleen (Kit), beloved wife of Capt. J. C. Wauchope, R.N. (retired), and daughter of the late David and Mrs. Gilmore, late of Shanghai, and Mickleham Downs, Leatherhead. Cremation at Golders Green, to-morrow, (Wednesday), at 12 o'clock. Bunches of flowers only, please.
