Harold was born on 8 May 1877, the son of James Thomas Woodhouse, 1st Baron Terrington, and Jessie Reed, at Hull, Yorkshire. He became the 2nd Baron Terrington upon the death of his father on 8 Feb 1921.

Vera was born on 11 January 1889, the daughter of Henry George Bousher and Ann Elizabeth Koster.
