The Times, Tuesday, Nov 25, 1947                   DEATHS
COL. THE HON. GEORGE KEPPEL
Inevitably when we lose an older friend we feel another link with the past has been broken.   This was especially true when we who belong to a younger generation heard of the death of George Keppel.   To us, who had loved and could remember him since childhood, he seemed somehow to grow no older with the passing years; perhaps it was his sympathy with the young which gave him this strange quality of agelessness,   From his varied interests and wide experience, his love of sport and travel, and his close acquaintance with the art Galleries of Florence he had absorbed a fund of knowledge from which it was fascinating to hear him draw.   There were moreover few distinguished men and women of his time whom he had not met and could not vividly describe.   His splendid looks, his exquisite manners, his benign geniality, and his sense of fun belonged intrinsically to the comparatively carefree life enjoyed by our parents.   Admiring as we do in him so many of the characteristics of the generation which he personified, we may well question whether we have not something more to learn from its gentle courtesy and code of behaviour than in these perplexing times it is the fashion to admit.
