Edwin Vaux                                         1844-1908
Colonel Edwin Vaux C.B., V.D., D.L., J.P.
  Edwin was born on 15 September 1844, in Bishopwearmouth, the son of Cuthbert Vaux and Sarah Ann Storey.   He was a Companion of the Bath, the Deputy Lieutenant for County Durhan, and a Justice of the Peace.   He was the Commander of a gunnery company in the Durham Royal Garrison Artillery, for 44 years.

Herrington Hall- A fine two story Georgian dwelling in Crow Lane with bow windows, splendid staircase and a large conservatory. It was demolished in 1957-58, when the cellars, dating from 1570 were exposed. After Edwin's death, Mary continued renting it until 1926.
