Lieut. Roe was killed over Strangford Loch, N Ireland, while doing running up trials before joining the HMS Illustrious. His body was never recovered. A fellow pilot collided with him, while the observer was also killed but the body was recovered off the coast of Scotland. More recently the wreckage of the plane (A Fairey ?) was discovered but the widow did not want it disturbed and it is now a designated war grave.
