John Pickering
John's first wife died. He then married Ann Reay on 10 April 1803, in the Parish Church of Whitburn. They then moved to Sunderland. In 1804 John was a Shoemaker, and in 1806-1810, a Cordwainer, and in 1811, a Shoemaker again. A Cordwainer was originally a term used for a person who worked with Cordovan, a special soft leather from Spain. Later it became the term used for Shoemaker.
Ann Reay                                       1767-
Ann was born about 1767, the daughter of James Reay and Grace Stafford, in Plessey, Stannington Parish, Northumberland (5m S E of Morpeth). She was a 35 year old spinster when she married John.
