Annie Dixon                                       1825-
Ann was born on 12 November 1825, at Corfu, Ionian Isles. She never married.
In 1840 she was "adopted" by her uncle the Rev. Henry Dixon, in Ferring. By the early 1860s she was living with her sister Maria at Corfu Villa, 69 Croxted Road, West Dulwich, where the two ladies wrote and had published several songs. Annie died sometime in the 1880s.

Maria Dixon                                       1831-1919
Maria was born on 11 September 1831, at Zante, Ionian Isles. She never married.
From 1863 to 1865 she and her sister Annie, who lived together at Corfu Villa, 69 Croxted Road, West Dulwich, had several Greek and Italian songs and arias published using the pseudonyms A. & M. Gironci, A. & M. Gironci Dixon, Dixon Gironci, or M.D. Gironci. Lamborn Cock, Hutchings & Co., were the principal publishers of these songs.
In 1892, after Annie died, Maria took to writing cookbooks. "Recipes of Italian Cookery" was her first, "translated and arranged by Maria Gironci", printed in London by Gaskill & Jones of 11 Ivy Lane, EC. It had 92 pages, plus 13 pages of front matter; the cover was in the Italian national colors, and the book cost three shillings. There was a 2nd edition the same year, and a 3rd in 1900. This neat little book can still be found readily today in used markets.
She left Corfu Villa in 1900 and moved to 10a Casewick Road, Abingdon Villas, West Norwood, where she wrote her second book, "Italian Recipes for Food Reformers", again "translated and arranged by Maria Gironci". This one was published by George Bell & Sons, Ltd., of York House, Portugal Street, Lincoln's Inn. A second edition came out in 1915, and a third in 1917, not so much a third edition, despite the wording, but a new version, edited by George Bell's son Edward, taking from Bell's previous Gironci book and eliminating the meat recipes - an attempt to cash in on the vegetarian market. Edward Bell wrote the 3-page preface.
Maria supported herself with her private income, and by teaching piano and Italian.
